Becoming a novelist has taught me to write, edit, and endure the perpetual process of rejection and acceptance.

Katherine McCarty received her Bachelor of Arts in Literature from Miami University of Ohio and her Doctor of Chiropractic from Life University in Georgia. Since she was young, she knew she would be a writer amidst the multitude of professions that intrigued her—it has been the dream that has accompanied all others.

Since moving to San Francisco, she started her own chiropractic office, runs a non-profit organization, and writes for local newsletters. Katherine’s greatest passions, outside of a good book, are traveling the world with her wife, studying herbalism, and surfing the California coastline.

  • This wasn’t the desired option… at first. I always dreamed of a traditional publishing house but the more I invested into this avenue the more I saw the benefits of self publishing. Yes, the rejections aren’t fun, but it also taught me to keep pursing what I set out to do. Self publishing, though not perfect, let me be in control of what I wanted, my creative expression, and allowed me to create opportunities which is gratifying in itself. There is nothing like producing something when all others tell you “No.”

  • Hands down, the Brontë sisters and Jane Austen. Wuthering Heights is my favorite book, though there are so many to choose from. My mother introduced me to these incredible writers at a young age and I’ve never looked back.

Also, the amazing mind and talent of J.K Rowling has built me into an unconditionally devoted Harry Potter fan.

These empowering women authors have, and will always, continue to inspire me.

  • I’ve been told to focus on one thing and pursue that to the fullest. Though very true with certain successes, that’s just not me. I have so many passions and things I want to accomplish that life is too short to only do one thing.

I grew up in a medically oriented family and decided to pursue chiropractic as a career. Couldn’t be happier. Writing has always been my love, and so I write on the side, keeping it pure and creative. No matter what I do, I will always be writing.

I’m currently studying herbalism and holistic approaches to medicine making. One day I hope to participate in an excavation site to study bone pathologies. I may also start my own publishing company and retire as a librarian or Professor McGonagall at Harry Potter World.

Who knows, but I know I won’t limit myself to just one thing.
